Poplar comes from Central and Southern Europe, but also from parts of Asia. Often planted as an alignment tree, poplar is found mainly in the Rhône Valley in its spontaneous state, but also further north and as far as the Rhine Valley. Its foliage, which shimmers with the slightest breath, has a very decorative appearance. Its wood is used in everyday carpentry, to make boxes and pulp. In medicine, its leaves and bark were once used for their qualities against fever.
